Raising finance for a business
Back
Businesses of all shapes and sizes need cash and need to raise finance at some time in their evolution - either at the start-up stage or as they grow.

Our large Corporate Team has a good track record of working with our clients to help them to see what type of financing is available and what type would best suit them. We are also well-versed at helping them to obtain finance on terms that do not restrict the business's ability to grow.

The overall approach of our Corporate lawyers consists of listening to you, free of any charge, so that we can get a feel for you and your business, what lending and funding you do and do not have an appetite for, and then explaining to you the options available to get your business to where it wants to go.

Types of finance
There are many different types of corporate finance and funding available, depending on your needs and goals. Raising cash for day-to-day needs (working capital) is quite different from raising money for a long-term capital project such as buying new machinery or property.

See "Sources of finance" below, for examples of where you might be able to get the funding you need.

What we can do for you
Our Corporate lawyers will listen to what you are trying to achieve, and we will advise you on your options generally (along with the pro's and con's of each). We will assist you with any business plan that a prospective lender or investor requires from you. We can even make introductions for you to organisations offering the kind of finance options that might suit you.

We will advise you in detail on any particular source of business funding that has been offered to you - on the terms of a loan that is being offered to you for example, or on the terms laid down by an investor who has the money you need but who wants a stake in your business.

We will not sit on the fence - we will make a recommendation to you and will highlight issues that we see - at the very least you will go into any arrangement with your eyes fully open.

After a general exploration with you of your needs and of the opportunities for finance that exist, specific work that our Corporate lawyers undertake includes the following: -

  • Reviewing business terms and conditions with suppliers to make you aware of existing or potential payment terms
  • Reviewing and advising on Heads of Agreement with chosen financiers.
  • Drafting and negotiating loan agreements, investment agreements, subscription agreements, factoring agreements
  • Advising on any appropriate changes to the articles of association of your company to allow financing opportunities
  • Dealing with employment issues that arise, such as new service contracts for management and any share-option issues.
  • Project-managing the process throughout.

Whatever you are planning to do, please talk to us initially so we can listen to you. There is no charge for this. Once we have agreed what is right for you and you have agreed to the detailed costs proposal that we will prepare for you, our Corporate lawyers will start working on your behalf,

We would be delighted to speak to you - please do not hesitate to call our large Corporate team so we can get to know you and your business. As we say, we are always there for businesses who are in our BLUE LAW scheme, so we invite you to join BLUE LAW now. Once you have joined, we try to answer any legal enquiries that you have, free of charge. If legal work is needed, we give you a price, and you are then free to "shop around".  If you wish to speak to us now, please click on "Please Contact Me Now” or call us on 0800 084 3256 We look forward to always being there for you.
