In acting for one of the Colleges of the University of Oxford, we drafted, negotiated and completed a long term farm business tenancy agreement in favour of an existing tenant of the college who was looking to expand its rural enterprise into a new venture. The tenant had missed its deadline to apply for a "succession tenancy” under the Agricultural Holdings Act regime but the College was happy to maintain its relationship with the tenant and a happy compromise was reached.
We acted for the tenant of land who wanted to take on a short term tenancy of adjacent property to "test the water” and see if it was feasible to expand his operation long term. We negotiated the terms of the tenancy and advised on the transfer of, and claim for, single farm payments, working with the tenant's land agent throughout. We also negotiated a reduction in rent for the client following our investigation of the title which revealed that the freeholder did not have access to his own land from an adopted highway.
