Folded Lung

Back
FOLDED LUNG (ATELECTASIS)

If part of your lung tissue becomes attached to a pleural plaque (see the section of this website concerned with pleural plaque) the attached part can then twist over itself.  This can be seen on x-rays and is called "folded lung”.  Of itself, this does not usually cause any breathing difficulty.

However, thickening of the outer layer of the lung (mesothelium) can lead to fibrosis and loss of elasticity.  This is called BILATERAL DIFFUSE PLEURAL THICKENING. This thickening may cause breathlessness when you exert yourself, and your chest expansion will be reduced.  There is a restrictive ventilatory defect in your lung function, with reduced total lung capacity.  X-rays and CT scans can identify this kind of pleural thickening.  You can claim compensation for both of these conditions.

THE LEGAL ISSUES

We need to look at the dates of your exposure to asbestos and whether the company or employer which exposed you to asbestos is still in existence or has been taken over, or whether there is a surviving policy of insurance that we can claim against to meet your compensation claim.

Please do contact us.  We can ensure you receive proper compensation for your injury as soon as possible and at no cost to you.

We can also ensure that should you go on to develop other asbestos related diseases you can return to Court for further compensation without the need to prove your case all over again.
