Dr A is German and is married to a German national. She came in to the country on a family permit. We helped her apply for a residence card, proof for potential employers that she is entitled to work in the UK because she is married to a European national who is working here. We advised her that the application could take up to 6 months to process but that she would meanwhile receive a "certificate of application " from the UK Border Agency. This confirmation that an application had been submitted could be shown by Dr A to prospective employers as proof that she was allowed to work here while her application was processed.
