If your permission to stay in the UK is due to run out you may wish to make an application to extend it.

It is vital that you apply for that extension before your existing permission runs out. That doesn't mean you can submit an application for an extension when there are still months and months to go on your old permission - usually you can only submit an application for an extension when there are only 28 days left to run on the old permission.

Depending on the nature of the application, particular methods have to be followed if you want to apply for an extension. Sometimes applications for extensions of stay can be made in person at the Home Office, sometimes the application must be made in writing.
