Ms L was awarded £20,000 when she fell from her horse whilst riding along a public bridleway that had been subject to some maintenance work by the Local Water Board.  The work men had failed to sufficiently cover and make safe a hole in the road by using a metal sheet.  Due to the wet and muddy conditions of the road, the hole was not visible to Ms L or her horse and as the horse rode over the metal sheet, the horse's back legs fell into the hole causing significant injury to the horse and a shoulder injury to M Leigh. Ms L recovered damages for her injuries along with veterinary costs.

Ms D was knocked over by an out of control dog that was off its lead. She sustained a knee injury, which included a tibial plateau fracture in her left knee. She suffered persistent pain and stiffness. She recovered compensation of £92,500, including damages for her pain and suffering, loss of earnings, and past and future private treatment costs.

Mrs R's claim arose after she sustained a fracture to her right leg which occurred when a horse being ridden by an inexperienced rider, bucked and kicked out when it was ridden too close to her and the horse she was riding, as she rode along a narrow and gorse lined bridle path. After extensive enquiries, helpful witness evidence was obtained and primary liability was later accepted by the Defendants. Although some element of contributory negligence ultimately had to be accepted by Mrs R, she recovered £12,000 from the claim.
