Mr Q changed jobs and so his family needed to move to another part of the country. The purchaser of Mr Q's property pulled out because there were plans to build an enormous waste processing facility at the bottom of his garden - he was advised by his estate agent that his house was virtually unsaleable. He was objecting to the scheme but felt powerless and increasingly desperate. We helped him with his formal objection and fought off an attempt to remove the special status he had been given in the light of the exceptional impact on his property. And we persuaded the Council to buy his house at a fair price which meant that he was able to move away and get on with his life.
Mr and Mrs J's neighbour was going to build a porch and for Mr & Mrs J, this was not ideal as the front door to their neighbour's terraced cottage was right next to Mr and Mrs J's front window. The neighbour said the council had told her she would not need planning permission. Mr and Mrs J were very upset and came to us for advice. We advised that whether this was true or not depended on where the highway boundary was which was not clear in this village setting. We contacted the highway authority and established the boundary and were then able to demonstrate to the Council and the neighbour that permission was required after all. As a result the neighbour gave up on the project, the porch never got built, and our clients' amenity was protected.
