The person responsible for dealing with the deceased's affairs is called the 'Personal Representative'. Under the intestacy rules, this person will be one of the following, in the following order - it's first come, first served!
- the spouse or civil partner of the deceased
- the deceased's children (if aged over 18) or grandchildren (if aged over 18)
- the deceased's parents
- the deceased's brothers or sisters, or their descendants
- the deceased's half brothers or sisters, or their descendants
- the deceased's grandparents
- the deceased's uncles and aunts
